Saudi Arabia Intercepts 6 Houthi Missiles as Regional Tensions Escalate

Saudi Arabia’s forces have intercepted six ballistic missiles fired by Yemeni separatist fighters from the Houthis group towards the Kingdom, Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki said. This comes after an increase in attacks by Houthis on September 24, 2026.

The missiles aimed at Yanbu and Taif in Saudi cities, Al-Maliki said. The latest interception comes after several reports of attacks including on Riyadh, Yanbu and Taif made on Soconet during September.

Six Missiles Intercepted Before Impact

The Saudi-led coalition’s air defense systems neutralised all six ballistic missiles as they were intercepted and tracked before hitting their target, it said. Initially, no loss of life or property was reported from this particular missile strike.

The attack caused civil defence alerts in various regions and there were fears of threats. Recurring missile and drone attacks have had a security impact, leaving people injured and buildings damaged in previous operations by Houthis in September.

Yanbu Remains a Strategic Location

The city of Yanbu holds great importance for its strategic location on the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia and its contribution to the country’s energy and maritime infrastructure. The city not only lies close to big oil facilities and oil export lines but the whole area is considered as a security issue.
