Qatar and the World Health Organization (WHO) held a second strategic dialogue in Geneva to strengthen their collaboration on global health issues. The dialogue was led by Qatar’s Minister of Public Health, H.E. Mansoor bin Ebrahim bin Saad Al Mahmoud, and WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The two sides signed a Statement of Intent to develop a Country Cooperation Strategy for 2024–2030 based on ongoing conversations and previous experiences together. The Statement of Intent would allow for the enhancement of Qatar’s health system and allow WHO’s work in the Eastern Mediterranean and beyond.

The strategy focuses on two main objectives:

1. Improve health system outcomes from Qatar’s perspective through engaging in joint programming with WHO.

2. Support Qatar’s regional and global health contributions, particularly those related to vulnerable countries.

The Qatari delegation included senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), and Qatar’s Permanent Mission in Geneva. On WHO’s side, senior representatives included members from Emergency Health, Digital Health, Science, Innovation, and Public Health in Fragile Settings. Furthermore, the director of the Eastern Mediterranean regional office attended as well.

Key areas of dialogue included WHO’s emergency health coordination, the importance of digital health, science and innovation, public health in fragile settings, and how Qatar’s national health strategy fit into WHO’s global goals.
