In preparation for the FIBA Asia Cup 2025, the Qatar national basketball team takes on India in a friendly at 7:00 PM today at the Federation Hall, Al Gharafa Club, in Doha, and has already begun training for competitive matches. This is the second phase of Qatar’s training program for the Asia Cup, which takes place August 5 – 17 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with a total of sixteen national teams competing in the Asia Cup.
Qatar Prepares for the Asia Cup
Qatar is in Group A, along with Australia, South Korea, and Lebanon, with their first official match on August 6 against Lebanon. Other groups include: China, Japan, Iran, and India. The Qatar team is currently in Doha for an internal training camp, and is being led by Turkish coach Hakan Demir. The Indian team arrived in Doha yesterday and was met with a warm welcome from the Qatar Basketball Federation. This friendly match will allow the Qatari coaching staff to implement varied strategies and assess their team in in-game situations similar to the Asia Cup. A second friendly against India will take place on Sunday at Al Gharafa Indoor Hall. From there, the Qatari team will move into the third phase of their training camp in South Korea, from July 16 to July 21. The Qatar Basketball Federation is also looking to conduct more friendlies from July 28 until August 1 with Qatar, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Japan in Lusail Multipurpose Hall.
