Qatar Launches ‘Sard’ AI Platform to Track News and Events in Multiple Languages

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) unveiled a new digital monitoring platform using Artificial Intelligence, “Sard,” to monitor tweets, breaking news and global developments in real time. The platform was opened in Doha by Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ Secretary-General.

Sard aims to make the diplomatic institutions in Qatar describe the flow of fast communications from the whole world. Language translation of content can enable ministry officials to gain a better overall picture of emerging trends and information through consistency.

How Sard Supports Qatar’s Diplomacy

Its AI technology and multilingual Natural Language Processing capabilities allow tracking of vast amounts of news and social media to detect trends. Its job is to take unstructured information and create structured data and analysis that will assist diplomats in evaluating rapid global change in connection with necessary foreign policy decisions.

The system is meant for the use of both the Qatari diplomats and the ministry departments in Doha, and Qatar’s diplomatic missions in other countries. This might offer officials a single, digital foreign policy/crisis management device.

Senior Officials Attend Launch

Senior officials of the State represented by the foreign ministry of Qatar, such as Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson of the MOFA and Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al Hamar, Ambassador to Germany were among those who attended the inauguration.

The event also saw several MOFA department directors in attendance, underscoring the platform’s role in the overall digital transformation efforts of the ministry.
