Qatar Airways announced it signed an agreement to establish the first digital aircraft painting facility in the Middle East, which will support its commitment to smarter and greener aviation services. The high-tech facility will be located in Doha and feature various systems that will be used to support advanced painting and sustainable technology. This facility will be very different from traditional paint shops. It will employ digital controls and automated applications to apply paint with higher precision and less waste, and improve turnaround time for aircraft, leaving them in service longer with reduced delays.
This is just one element of Qatar Airways’ commitment to innovate and develop plans that lessen aviation’s impact on the environment. The facility will use eco-friendly paint and energy-efficient machinery to reduce emissions, and the workspace will also be safer. The new facility, owned and operated by Qatar Airways’ MRO division, Qatar Airways Technic, will build on current maintenance operations. Qatar Airways Technic already supports a larger fleet of Airbus A350s and Boeing 787s, and provides overall world-class maintenance service. To summarize, this will make Qatar Airways the first airline in the region to design a digital way of painting aircraft, while developing a new standard in the maintenance industry in the region. This facility will also support the airline’s long-term aspirations around efficiency, sustainability, and operational effectiveness to further enhance Qatar Airways’ leadership in aviation technology and service excellence.
