Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has landed in Kuwait on a high-profile trip to last a couple of days. It is the first official visit by an Indian premier in 43 years. Before PM Modi, former premier Indira Gandhi visited the Gulf state back in 1981.
During his ongoing trip, PM Modi and the GCC nation’s top leadership are going to hold meticulous discussions. He is also expected to meet the Indian diaspora in the country and attend the inauguration ceremony of the Gulf Cup football tournament.

India is among the Gulf state’s top trading partners. During 2023-24, bilateral trade amounted to $10.47 billion. Modi’s high-profile trip to Kuwait can lure attention to a bilateral investment pact and a defence cooperation agreement.
The historic visit is also going to boost GCC-India bilateral relations. The Gulf Cooperation Council is an influential grouping comprising of six countries, such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain.
