NYU Abu Dhabi Arts Centre has announced its ninth season, which will feature concerts, dance performances, and film screenings.
The season will run from August 31 to May and will include the popular Barzakh Festival, a two-day music event.
The Arts Centre aims to provide a platform for audiences to discover unfamiliar disciplines, artists, and works.
The season will showcase new works of regional and international significance, including world premieres and regional premieres.
Highlights of the programme include an immersive exhibition called “Now Is When We Are (the stars)”, featuring 5,000 individual points of light and a sound system.
There will also be a performance called “Mehek” by British-Indian choreographer Aakash Odedra and Indian Kathak dancer Aditi Mangaldas, exploring society’s conceptions of love.
Several artists will be making their UAE debut, including the Asian Dub Foundation and Brazilian singer Bebel Gilberto, who will perform songs dedicated to her father, Joao Gilberto, a pioneer of Bossa Nova.
The Barzakh Festival, a home-grown world music event, will also return, featuring Tunisian singer-songwriter Emel Mathlouthi and Egyptian folk music collective Mazaher.

The Arts Centre aims to provide inspiration, stimulation, reflection, and fun for its audiences. The programme will feature arts exhibitions, dance performances, and concerts, with more artists to be announced at a later date. The season will showcase the richness of the UAE’s cultural output and bring new and exciting works to the nation.
