Minister of State Noura al Kaabi led the UAE delegation to the International Conference in Support of Lebanon’s People and Sovereignty – organised by French President Emmanuel Macron and hosted in Paris.
More than 70 countries participated in the conference, in addition to the United Nations, European Union and international and regional organisations. The event helped raise $1 billion in pledges for humanitarian aid and military support for Lebanon.
In his closing speech, French foreign minister Jean-Noël Barrot said the conference collectively raised $800 million in humanitarian aid for Lebanon and $200 million for the security forces. France promised $100 million.
UAE’s unflinching support for Lebanon’s unity
Leading the UAE delegation to the international conference in Paris, Noura al Kaabi expressed her country’s deep concerns about the ongoing developments in Lebanon, the repercussions of the dangerous escalation, and its impact on regional stability.
The Minister affirmed the UAE’s unflinching support for Lebanon’s unity, its national sovereignty and territorial integrity. She stressed the Emirati leadership’s call on the international community to intensify serious efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Lebanon.
UAE President HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed has directed the provision of $100 million of urgent relief packages to the Lebanese people. He has also allocated $30 million of urgent humanitarian aid to the Lebanese refugees in Syria.
UAE’s keenness to respond to crisis in Lebanon
The UAE continues to call for avoiding escalations. The Gulf state stresses the need to end the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon as the brutal fighting has displaced 1.4 million people and created dire conditions requiring food, shelter and medical care.
In an effort to ease the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Lebanon, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has also directed the provision of urgent food aid to the Lebanese people through MBRGI.
The UAE has dispatched 14 aircraft carrying relief supplies for Lebanon. The country seeks to prevent further loss of life in Lebanon through the full implementation of the United Nations Security Council’s Resolutions 1559 and 1170.
