Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, discussed developments in regional and international events in a telephone conversation on Tuesday.
The two sides focused on Saudi-Indian historical and strategic relations, ways to develop them and several other topics of common interest, as per the Saudi Press Agency. The call came against a backdrop of raging violence between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Maintaining Peace, Security And Stability In The Region
Experts fear the months-long Israel-Gaza conflict could trigger a regional spillover. MBS and Modi exchanged views on the current situation in West Asia, sharing deep concerns at terrorism, violence and the loss of civilian lives.
The Indian prime minister reiterated the country’s long-standing and principled position on the Israel-Palestine issue and called for continued humanitarian support for the affected population. The leaders agreed to work together for peace, security and stability in the region.
During the discussions, the two sides reviewed progress in bilateral Strategic Partnership in follow-up to State visit of the Crown Prince to India in September 2023. They also discussed the forward-looking bilateral partnership agenda for the future.
Saudi Arabia and India enjoy cordial and friendly relations reflecting the centuries-old economic and social-cultural ties. The establishment of diplomatic relations in 1947 was followed by high-level visits from both sides.
