Last year, the UAE demonstrated a strong commitment to global humanitarian and diplomatic missions, supported by President HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed. That determination touched millions of people across the globe.

Throughout 2024, the UAE contributed more than $788.8 million in foreign aid, positioning itself as the ninth largest donor globally. The Gulf state has also secured the position of the second-largest donor in Gaza, contributing $396.6 million in humanitarian aid.

On December 31, the UAE sent an emergency aid shipment to the territory to address rising infant mortality triggered by extreme cold, malnutrition and shortages of basic supplies. The shipment included milk, nutritional supplements and clothing.

UAE stepping up humanitarian support globally

In Lebanon, the UAE contributed $121.8 million last year, amounting to 10.7% of total support and placing it third among donor countries. The Gulf state has been focusing on capacity-building, infrastructure support and medical supplies.

Earlier last year, the UAE facilitated a polio vaccination campaign in the besieged Gaza Strip. Lebanon, in a similar manner, has found a steadfast supporter in the UAE. The Gulf state is looking for permanent peaceful solutions for both territories.

The UAE has also stepped up support for Sudan and neighboring Chad. Hunger, displacement and cross-border instability are causing serious troubles in both countries. Beyond the Middle East, the UAE has also supported the Philippines, Brazil and others.

UAE focusing on systemic issues and long-term solutions

The UAE’s leadership in humanitarian support across the globe goes far beyond emergency relief. The Gulf state has also been focusing on systemic issues and long-term solutions. The UAE Global Hospitals Programme is one such key mission.

By unifying missions such as the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund and the Zayed Sustainability Prize, the UAE has been using the latest entity to streamline efforts in global health, education, energy, climate and sustainability.

Besides humanitarian efforts, the UAE has also been deepening its focus on diplomacy. The country has become an active voice in the UN. Its representatives delivered more than 60 statements across different UN bodies, advocating for peaceful resolutions.
