Dubai's Next-Gen Flying Taxis by 2026

Visitors were welcomed by an impressive full scale model of the flying taxis that are all set to take off in Dubai early next year at the Museum of the Future.

Dubai will be the first ever country in the world to launch the air taxi with the service scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2026.

The flying taxi which is entirely electric and emits no emissions fits in with Dubai’s larger transportation objectives such as its aim of having 25% self-driving of trips by 2030.

Flying Taxi Details:

The flying taxi which is about the size of a helicopter and can accommodate up to four people provides a convenient and effective means of getting around the city.

The taxi prototype created by Joby Aviation. An environmentally friendly electric vehicle is the Joby S4 aerial taxi. The zero emission vehicle can accommodate four passengers and a pilot and has six rotors and four battery packs.

With a maximum speed of 322 kmph and a range of up to 161 km, it provides a “quieter alternative” to conventional helicopters. It differs from conventional helicopters in that it has three rounded landing skids and six rotors.

Flying Taxi Routes:

Key Dubai landmarks such as Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah will be connected by the first lines. Compared to 45 minutes by automobile, the trip from the airport to Palm Jumeirah will only take 12 minutes.

Additionally, the service will improve integration with other public transportation networks and personal mobility options like bicycles and e-scooters.

Last month, the first commercial vertiport for flying taxis was revealed in the United Arab Emirates. Known as Dubai International Vertiport (DXV), it can accommodate about 170,000 passengers and 42,000 aerial taxi landings annually. Skyports Infrastructure will be in charge of the design, building and operation while Joby Aviation will oversee the logistics of the vehicles and passengers.
