Dubai has officially approved the massive Blue Line project, which is a new 30-kilometer metro expansion set to transform public transport in the city’s rapidly growing expat population. The new Blue Line was approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and will feature 14 state-of-the-art stations across major residential and commercial hubs in Dubai, including Dubai Creek, International City, Mirdif, and Silicon Oasis.
The new project will connect directly to the existing Red and Green Lines at key stops, which will provide commuters with improved connectivity and shorter travel times. A highlight of the new Blue Line will be a 1.3 km bridge over Dubai Creek which combines advanced engineering and stunning views. Construction is anticipated to commence in April of 2025 and be finished by September 2029, which coincides with Dubai Metro’s Red Line 20th anniversary. Dubai Metro secured the work by the international consortium MAPA, Limak, and CRRC to complete the new Blue Line project.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is anticipating that the Blue Line project will reduce rushing traffic congestion by 20%, while also achieving other environmental objectives by reducing emissions. The expansion of Dubai Metro’s public transit system now underpins Dubai’s Economic Agenda D33 and 2040 Urban Master PlanFirst and foremost, the project showcases Dubai’s ambitious vision for the emirate and demonstrates the emirate’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
