Dubai has demonstrated its commitment to world travel by setting a standard in regard to inclusivity and accessibility for everyone. While well known as a luxurious destination with incredible attractions the city has taken another impressive step in assuring that those affected by autism and sensory issues can have an experience. This is an important step for Dubai in fulfilling its goal of enhancing the quality of life of all visitors and residents, regardless of their ability. By collaborating with partners and creating unique training programs, the city of Dubai is creating a more welcoming travel environment.
A City-Wide Commitment to Inclusivity
Officially recognized as the first Certified Autism Destination™ (CAD) in the Eastern Hemisphere, Dubai has created a new aspect of global accessibility. Staff Strengthening with ‘Dubai Way’ Training
At the core of the initiative is the online training, ‘Dubai Way’ provided by the Dubai College of Tourism (DCT). This ensures tourism personnel are trained to provide service to People of Determination with an understanding of providing empathetic service. The training outlines sensory impairments, communication techniques and also how to create positive environments.
Key stakeholders including Dubai Airports and Emirates are also dedicated to improving accessibility. Emirates has become the first autism certified airline in the world by training more than 30,000 staff to assist passengers with autism and sensory challenges.
