Alliance to End Plastic Waste GCC programme

Alliance to End Plastic Waste has made a big step in its mission all over the world by introducing a new country programme in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. This growth is a strategic step towards trying to solve the issue of plastic pollution in one of the fastest developing economic regions in the world. The growth of the Gulf countries is a challenge and an opportunity because of the rapid urbanisation, increasing consumption as well as environmental awareness. The initiative would work to enhance local infrastructure, innovate and develop relationships between governments, businesses, and communities to decrease the plastic leaks into the environment and support the use of a circular economy.

Strategic Expansion into the GCC Region

In mid-December 2025, the global business coalition of companies, governments, and organisations Alliance to End Plastic Waste declared its GCC country programme. The programme will first target major nations in the Gulf, among them, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. Such countries are putting sustainability in their long-term development agendas, thus being the best to partner in taking joint action on the environment.

Expansion into the Gulf countries will help the Alliance fit into national sustainability initiatives, as well as assist the region in modernising waste collection, sorting, and recycling systems. That programme will collaborate with the local authorities to determine the gaps in management of plastic waste and apply solutions that can be scaled up.

Focus on Infrastructure, Innovation, and Education

One strength of the GCC programme is the development of infrastructure. Most of the Gulf countries are making massive investments in smart cities and green technologies, and the Alliance will supplement them with the promotion of advanced recycling plants and effective waste collection systems. The new techniques will be pilot projects, such as the digital monitoring of plastic waste and the collaboration of the government and businesses in a recycling association.

Besides infrastructural matters, the Alliance to End Plastic Waste focuses on education and behavioural change. The awareness campaigns, school programmes, and industry training that will be conducted in the community will be to reduce the single-use plastics and promote responsible consumption. Such endeavors will be critical in the contribution to long-term influence.

Strengthening Regional and Global Collaboration

The move into the Gulf countries also gives the Alliance a stronger presence in the world. Through partnership with the local stakeholders, the organisation will be able to establish replicable trends that can be implemented in other emerging markets. The Alliance will also allow corporate members to provide technical skill and investment with local partners ensuring that solutions of the Alliance are relevant both culturally and economically.

The officials related to the launch indicated that addressing plastic waste needs to be done together. The GCC programme is aimed at promoting inter-border cooperation which helps the countries to exchange best practices and information and pursue shared environmental objectives.
