Tajikistan and UAE Celebrate Three Decades of Diplomatic Relations

Tajikistan and the UAE celebrated the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, steady growth, and cooperation in the fields of economy and infrastructure construction, energy, tourism, technology and culture.

The celebration took place at a reception organized by the Ambassador of Tajikistan to the UAE, Ashrafjon Gulov in Abu Dhabi. The event was attended by the UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Mr. Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, the members of the Federal National Council, government officials, diplomats and the residents of Tajikistan.

Three Decades of Growing Partnership

The diplomatic relationship was formalized between Tajikistan and UAE on 18 December 1995. Since that time, bilateral cooperation has expanded in the form of political dialogue, economic cooperation, investment, culture and humanitarian exchanges.

Tajik foreign ministry says the relationship gained momentum based on high-level visits and cooperation and political consultations between the two governments. The two countries have put in place institutional mechanisms, such as the corporate field of economic cooperation, trade and technological cooperation, etc., that have facilitated greater cooperation between the two countries as a whole.

Economic and Development Cooperation

Today, the partnership extends to the sectors such as transport & logistics, energy & mineral exploration, industry, education, health & tourism, and much more. In addition to the above, the advanced technologies, artificial intelligence and investment are becoming another space for closer cooperation.

Officials of both countries held on-going talks regarding the expansion of political, economic, trade and cultural cooperation in 2026. In February, they discussed intensifying multifaceted bilateral relations at a meeting in Abu Dhabi.

Focus on Technology, Climate and Water

It is also an opportunity to underscore points of shared interest between Tajikistan and the UAE in international development priorities and contributions. These include – climate change, water resources, environmental protection, glacier preservation, and sustainable development.

Tajikistan has highlighted its water and climate diplomacy, particularly with regards to international cooperation. The development of cooperation with the UAE can, and should, therefore go beyond the bilateral economic field to broader discussions on environmental and development issues.

A New Phase for Bilateral Relations

The UAE is an important partner for Tajikistan and the occasion to consolidate the results achieved would be an opportunity, Ambassador Gulov explained. He also emphasized on the opportunities for investments, development of trade, and common priorities for the future for several years.

The appointment of UAE’s resident ambassador to Tajikistan has also been termed a positive step towards enhancing the bilateral engagement between the UAE and Tajikistan. The two sides are likely to reach further cooperation with the help of mutual consultations between governments, cooperation between business sectors and people-to-people contact.
