sheikh mohamed announces scholarships

The UAE has made another move towards deepening cultural ties with Serbia via education and knowledge sharing. UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in his official working visit to Belgrade directed the provision of scholarships for the Serbian Students to study in top universities in the UAE.

This was part of Sheikh Mohamed meeting the Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić to discuss progress on the UAE–Serbia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. The campaign serves as a reminder of the importance of education in promoting long term dialogue and cooperation in both the diplomatic and economic spheres.

New Chapter in Academic Cooperation

The scholarship programme is for the benefit of Serbian undergraduate and postgraduate students, interested in studying in the UAE. Students from all aspects will be welcomed but the program is definitely science technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

The UAE is looking to cultivate leaders with the skills required in the current technologically driven Global Economic Landscape by making it accessible to world class Universities and research institutes.

Focus on STEM and AI

One of the hallmarks of the scholarship directive is that it emphasizes disciplines that are in high demand. The fields of Engineering & Technology, Advanced Technology, Computer Science and AI are anticipated to be given priority as seen in both countries’ plans to create knowledge based economies.

The selected students will be provided with the opportunity of studying in top federally owned universities and research centers in the UAE, thus providing them with an international academic experience, and helping to form the basis for future academic and research collaborations.

Strengthening UAE–Serbia Relations Beyond Education

The €40,000 scholarship announcement comes as part of a larger initiative to increase the connections between Abu Dhabi and Belgrade. The UAE and Serbia have expanded their cooperation in various fields, notably infrastructure, renewable energy, investment and trade.

President Vučić welcomed the initiative, referring to it as another example of the strong and enduring relationship between the two countries. He also highlighted that education and technology transfer are keys for the continued economic growth of Serbia.

Supporting Future Innovation

In an academic exchange programme, network connections are usually highly persistent, both in terms of career and research. The UAE aims to foster collaborative research work, innovation and entrepreneurship through the integration of Serbian students with their universities, which can contribute significantly to both countries in the future.

The scholarships also are consistent with UAE’s vision to welcome global talents and spread education for cross-cultural understanding and awareness.

Expo 2027 and Broader Strategic Cooperation

The education was just one part of Sheikh Mohamed’s trip to Serbia. Moreover, the UAE President also visited the multimedia centre of the city of Belgrade where the preparations took place for the international exhibition that would be held at Expo 2027.

Both countries are looking to work together, sharing experiences gained from hosting Expo 2020 Dubai and smart infrastructure, logistics, and event management, among other areas. While this, the UAE companies are still investing in Serbia’s renewable energy projects, and in the development of infrastructure, strengthening the economic relationship.
