The UAE conducted the 23rd evacuation flight on Tuesday, as part of a humanitarian mission to evacuate 55 critically injured people and patients from the Gaza Strip, including children and cancer patients in need of meticulous healthcare.
The patients landed in the UAE from Ramon airport in Israel, accompanied by 72 family members. It is part of an initiative launched by UAE President HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed to treat 1,000 children and 1,000 cancer patients from Gaza in the UAE.
UAE extending a helping hand during time of need
Last year, the UAE leadership launched the mission. So far, 2,254 patients and family members have reached the UAE. It demonstrates the UAE’s steadfast commitment to supporting Palestinians in Gaza amid the catastrophic situation.
The UAE has been extending a helping hand during their time of need. On December 31, the Gulf state send an emergency aid shipment to Gaza, including milk, nutritional supplements and clothing. It is aimed at addressing rising infant mortality rates.
Earlier last year, the UAE also facilitated a polio vaccination campaign in the Gaza Strip. The country has become the second-largest donor in Gaza, contributing $396.6 million in humanitarian aid.
UAE’s global humanitarian efforts for people in need
Since it started operations on December 2, 2023, the UAE field hospital in Gaza has treated more than 50,000 cases. There is also a floating ship anchored nearby, treating at least 8,500 medical cases since its launch last year.
Beyond Gaza, the UAE has contributed $121.8 million last year in Lebanon, becoming the third-largest donor there. The Gulf state has also dispatched aid for Sudan, Syria, Chad, Brazil, the Philippines and other countries across the globe.
